Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country is ready to restore relations with Saudi Arabia under certain conditions.
Rouhani said in a televised broadcast Sunday, that the conditions include stopping the bombings in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition is fighting against the Houthis, and cutting ties with Israel, which he described as a “false friendship.”
Saudi Arabia does not officially recognize Israel, but it has a shared a shared interest in fighting Iran.
Since January 2016, Iran’s diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia severed, after Saudi diplomatic missions were attacked by Iranian demonstrators in response to the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric.
Earlier last month, tensions rose again after a ballistic missile fired by Iran was intercepted near Riyadh.
